  • This is intended for caregivers who have background training in nursing from another country or those who need to do a quick review and hone their health care aide skills in order to re-enter the work force. This course is also helpful for caregivers who are attempting to obtain their registry number from the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry and need assistance with skills check list completion.

  • Course Components:

    1. Online Coaching Session (2 Hours): - Engage in a personalized online coaching session with experienced healthcare professionals. This session focuses on providing you with a foundational understanding of the role and responsibilities of a health care aide. Ask questions, discuss goals, and receive tailored advice to prepare you for the hands-on components of the course.

    2. Lab Skills Day (16 Hours, Over Two 8-Hour Days):- Participate in intensive lab sessions that simulate real-world healthcare scenarios. These sessions emphasize practical skills such as patient care, communication, infection control, mobility assistance, and emergency response. Gain confidence and competence as you practice under the guidance of experienced instructors.

    3. Job Shadow Preceptorship (2 Days): - Immerse yourself in the day-to-day experiences of a professional health care aide through a job shadow preceptorship in a long-term care home. Observe and learn from seasoned aides as they provide compassionate care to residents, offering you invaluable insights into best practices and workplace dynamics.

    4. Working Preceptorship (1 Day): - Transition from observation to participation with a one-day working preceptorship. Apply your skills in a real-world environment, taking on responsible tasks under the supervision of a preceptor. This hands-on experience is crucial for building practical knowledge and boosting your readiness for employment. Outcome: Upon successful completion of the course, you'll have a comprehensive understanding of the competencies required for health care aides in BC, including the completion of a skills checklist. You'll be well-prepared for registration with the BC Health Care Aide Registry, positioning you for a fulfilling career in the healthcare sector

    6 days ( 38 hours)

    Format:

    Virtual and in person.

    Lab skills (2 days) — At CareBridge Training Academy location in Port Moody.

    Job shadow preceptorship (2 days) — take place in a long term care facility in greater Vancouver area. Arranged by CareBridge Training Academy.

    Working Preceptorship (1 day) — takes place in the same care facility as the job shadow preceptorship. Arranged by CareBridge Training Academy.
